John
Sierra has been with Metis since 1986 and has been a principal
for over thirteen years. John’s professional planning,
design, and management experience includes a broad background
in all healthcare facility building types. His experience
and design philosophy enable him to respond to clients’
needs while meeting the functional, aesthetic and financial
priorities of the institution. Specific areas of expertise
include visioning, concept development, strategic facilities
planning, functional programming, space programming, workload
analysis, bed analysis, departmental planning, “order
of magnitude” cost estimating, and cost / benefit analysis.
To date at Metis, John has planned and coordinated over $1
billion in healthcare facility projects that have been completed,
are in construction or are in architectural design. John served
as both chair and co-chair of the American Institute of Architects
Chicago Chapter Health Committee for three years. He participated
in organizing over a dozen local chapter and national chapter
conferences for the AIA. He has also served on the Metropolitan
Planning Council of Chicago’s Health Committee. Prior
to joining Metis, John practiced in a national healthcare
architecture firm and worked in the facilities department
of a large academic teaching hospital in Chicago. John has
completed graduate studies in the Master of Architecture program
at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and holds a
Bachelor of Architecture from IIT. John is actively involved
with the firm’s management committee, staff recruitment,
real estate and technology development.
